Isoul8 – Give It Up

ISOUL8 aka ENRICO CRIVELLARO from Verona has been on the scene for years and has recently been given the break he deserves by JAZZANOVA who have signed ISOUL8 to their Sonar Kollektiv label. Indeed, this is already ISOUL8′ s second 12″ this year following the Speak Your Word EP (SK103). Under his VOLCOV alias ENRICO CRIVELLARO has had a 7″ on sub-label Best Seven and his debut album Balance (SK104CD/LP) is also about to come out on Sonar Kollektiv. Give It Up features the vocals of VALERIE ETIENNE and comes with PIRANHAHEAD and extended DJ mixes.

Although ISOUL8 originally comes from a techno and drum ‘n’ bass background, Give It Up is a prime slice of soul jazz. The man who has an absolute knowledge for old-school house and has previously released on the italian labels Neroli and Archive, proves with Give It Up he has learned from his expansive record collection just how to produce quality tracks of his own. First up on this wide 12″ is the fine PIRANHAHEAD mix. PIRANHAHEAD aka MAURICE HERD plays keyboards with THEO PARRISH in his THE ROTATING ASSEMBLY collective. PIRANHAHEAD adds some fat beats to ISOUL8’s groove to make for a powerful building track. PIRANHAHEAD´s mix is in the classic Detroit tradition, is certainly DJ friendly and is bound to get the crowd jumping whenever it is played in clubs. The extended mix on the B-side is a more down-tempo affair; this is perfect after hours chill out music. CRIVELLARO really puts the lush voice of VALERIE ETIENNE, who also sings in Talkin’ Loud band GALLIANO, in the foreground of this song. Anyone who hears the sweet voice of ETIENNE whispering “i need your loving” is gonna have no choice but to give it up immediately.

Thanks to JAZZANOVA’s eclectic and forward thinking a&r policy, the joyous music of ENRICO CRIVELLARO need no longer remain isolated. And if you like this and the Speak Your Word EP then you will be pleased to know ISOUL8’s full length album, Balance, is coming out later this summer on Sonar Kollektiv (SK104CD/LP). Two maxi singles and an album already in the first half of 2006 – thats not bad coming from CRIVELLARO, a man who still works for his family grocery business and only really produces music for the love of it on sundays! Although ISOUL8 tracks and remixes have previously appeared on Compost and Ninja Tunes it is only really this year that he has started to get the recognition he deserves. So respect is due to Sonar Kollektiv for bringing Give It Up by ISOUL8 to a record store near you.
