.multibeat x Casiio – Flyyy
.multibeat x Casiio – Flyyy is out now.
Flyyy is the second single to be taken from the new LP by forward-thinking Dutch collective .multibeat. Entitled OOO, it’s due for release in the autumn. The trio hail from the vibrant Dutch city of Utrecht, whose rich musical heritage and diverse influences provide the perfect backdrop for .multibeat to create their unique amalgamation of hip hop and jazz, keeping the beat at the centre of everything they do.
Influenced in equal measure by artists like Robert Glasper and Danish experimental hip hop and jazz outfit Athletic Progression, the core trio of Boudewijn Pleij (keys), Thijs van Zutphen (bass) and Aron Smit (drums) continue to draw inspiration from working with a wide range of like-minded artists across their sonic spectrum. One such collaborator is Dutch lo-fi hip-hop producer Casiio, with whom they adopted an organic, jam-led approach to develop new rhythms and textures. The track evolved naturally in the studio, with its distinctive shift emerging spontaneously during the session — a moment that revealed the track’s full potential.
With cascading keys giving way to soft pads and laid-back beats, Flyyy transports the listener into a warm, immersive space before subtly flipping the script. A more fractured yet equally relaxed drum pattern emerges, accompanied by wordless vocal samples and wonky synth textures that add a playful, off-kilter edge.
At just under two minutes long, Flyyy offers another glimpse into an album that reflects .multibeat’s strong independent spirit, while staying true to their live sound and collaborative ethos.
