.multibeat – Please Hold Me feat. Säm Wilder
Forward thinking Dutch collective .multibeat present Please Hold Me, the first single from their forthcoming LP, and debut for Sonar Kollektiv, entitled OOO, due for release in the autumn.
The trio hail from the vibrant city of Utrecht, and its rich musical heritage and diverse influences provide the perfect backdrop for .multibeat to create their unique amalgamation of hip hop and jazz, keeping the beat firmly at the centre of everything they do.
Influenced by Robert Glasper and J Dilla, as well as the current wave of UK jazz, the core trio of Boudewijn Pleij on keys, Thijs van Zutphen on bass and Aron Smit on drums also find inspiration by working with a wide range of, mostly local, artists. One of those, despite currently residing in L.A., is Dutch singer, songwriter and producer Säm Wilder.
Sam was born and raised in the Netherlands, but whilst holidaying in the U.S. in his teens, an unexpected visit to a recording studio changed his life forever. Beginning his musical journey under the moniker of Beekwilder, he gradually refined his sound into the polished, R&B tinged voice that you can hear today, and something that lends itself perfectly to .multibeat’s mellifluous new single.
With its melting chords, pitched-up vocal samples and neck-snapping drums, Please Hold Me captures the feeling of slowly letting your guard down with someone. It is about wanting closeness, honesty, and real connection after a long stretch of loneliness. The lyrics move between uncertainty and trust, reflecting that in-between space where love is not fully defined yet, but feels worth leaning into. At its heart, the song is about choosing openness, holding on, and allowing yourself to be seen.
Please Hold Me offers the first taste of an album that reflects .multibeat’s strong independent spirit, whilst staying true to their live sound and maintaining the theme of collaboration that has featured so strongly throughout their work so far.
