.multibeat – Hold Me Down feat. TOS
Dutch collective .multibeat unveil “Hold Me Down”, the final single ahead of the release of their forthcoming album OOO, arriving on 25 September via Sonar Kollektiv.
Since the beginning of the campaign, the Utrecht trio have revealed the many facets of their sound. From the intimate warmth of Please Hold Me, the laid-back groove of Flyyy, the socially reflective Monochrom and the playful instrumental energy of Use Your Noggin. With “Hold Me Down”, Boudewijn Pleij (keys), Thijs van Zutphen (bass) and Aron Smit (drums) bring the album rollout to an emotional conclusion.
The track features Dutch vocalist, songwriter and producer TOS, a longtime collaborator whose soulful delivery perfectly complements .multibeat’s blend of jazz, hip-hop and contemporary soul. Having previously worked together, the trio immediately knew they wanted to reunite after hearing an early demo for the album sessions.
With a voice that sits comfortably somewhere between D’Angelo, Raphael Saadiq and Anderson .Paak, TOS brings honesty and warmth to what is perhaps the album’s most direct and heartfelt moment. Built around steady syncopated rhythms, lush keys and rich low-end grooves, “Hold Me Down” is an open declaration of love, trust and vulnerability.
As the band explain:
“This sweet, juicy song was written with the intention of making clear how much someone can affect you. The original idea was to write down as many specific things as possible, such as what makes me happy or particular things I would love to do with this person. I place a lot of emphasis on warmth and a certain inner feeling. Hold Me Down can be translated as both hold me tight and keep me close. By this I mean that when things feel uncertain or fear comes into play, I would like to stay with this person. I write from the heart. I write to process. I write to reflect, and this song is also an example of that.”
Like every track on OOO, Hold Me Down reflects .multibeat’s collaborative ethos and groove-first philosophy while staying true to the trio’s live musicianship. As the final preview of the album, it perfectly encapsulates what makes .multibeat such a compelling new addition to the Sonar Kollektiv family: emotionally honest songwriting, instinctive interplay and an unwavering commitment to the groove.
“Hold Me Down” is available now on all digital platforms. The album OOO follows on 25 September on digital, black vinyl and limited coloured vinyl.
