Eva Be – No Memory Of Time feat. Joe Dukie
With her powerful, deep and dubby DJ sets, EVA BE is no newcomer anymore. Neither in her home base of Berlin or internationally. But its not just behind the turntables that she has been successful – she has also tallyed up quite a number of releases, mainly on DANIEL W. BEST’s Label Best Seven and the Sonar Kollektiv umbrella.
No Memory Of Time is the first 12-Inch to be taken from EVA BE’s long awaited debut album which will come out in July 2007.
With Moving Without Traveling, EVA BE and her partner BORIS MEINHOLD (MICATONE) have managed to create an album of effortless simplicity which still leaves no second without depth – quite the opposite, with their well polished openness, each piece invites you to lose yourself in it. Just the way it should be with excellent dub!
When the FAT FREDDYS DROP crew first hit the Berlin nightlife scene with Midnight Marauders, EVA BE managed to contact JOE DUKIE and get him to do the guest vocals on No Memory Of Time. So EVA BE counts as one of the first European supporters of the New Zeeland based band. And so far No Memory Of Time is still a rare chance to hear JOE DUKIEs voice outside the FFD context.
The results of this collaboration can now be heard in three versions on this 12-Inch. Firstly, there’s the wonderful and melancholy album version, then there are also remixes by SOULPHICTION and TOLCHA.
SOULPHICTION’s edit starts quietly but builds up to become a playfully energetic track with an electronic afro touch and hypnotic synthesiser strings. In contrast, TOLCHA deliver a more edgy version: their mix is built upon a distorted bass line and chopped up vocal samples – a track which will work especially well in Berlin’s club scene.
