Alexander IV – Time of Day feat. Oli Hannaford
Alexander IV teams up with Oli Hannaford on “Time of Day” — a soulful, Latin-tinged groove and standout from the debut album Alchemist.
Dutch producer and multi-instrumentalist Alexander IV — the pseudonym of celebrated beat-maker Joris Feiertag — shares “Time of Day”, the fourth single from his upcoming debut album Alchemist.
Known for his club-focused work under the name Feiertag and as a member of Kraak & Smaak, Joris uses the Alexander IV alias to explore a more introspective, sample-driven sound rooted in hip-hop, soul, and jazz. Alchemist brings these elements together across thirteen beautifully crafted tracks featuring a wide cast of collaborators.
“Time of Day” is one of the album’s most uplifting and soulful moments. Featuring UK singer-songwriter and BBC Introducing alumnus Oli Hannaford, the track echoes the warmth of Bill Withers with a touch of Latin flavor and modern finesse.
“This track was a special writing process for me,” Joris explains. “I rarely build something from scratch or do live sessions, but I stepped out of my comfort zone and invited trumpet player Luuk Hof and trombonist Darius Christian. I had already made the groove, built around a Spanish guitar sample that immediately caught my ear. The guys brought so much energy to the session. And when I later asked my friend Oli to sing on it, everything clicked — it instantly became one of my favorite tracks on the album. For me, it carries that Tom Misch vibe with a touch of old-school bossa nova.”
As with all of Alexander IV’s music, “Time of Day” is built with meticulous care and emotional depth — combining chopped samples, live instrumentation, and subtle, layered textures into something cinematic and soul-saturated.
Alchemist draws from a wide range of influences: Mr. Scruff, Thievery Corporation, Kruder & Dorfmeister, as well as newer artists like SAULT and Khruangbin. “The cinematic atmosphere I envisioned came through just as I hoped,” Joris says. “One of the things I’m most proud of is the detail. Every element has its place — even the smallest quotes and samples are intentional. Everything aligns.”
As the album title suggests, Alchemist is about transformation — combining past and present, analog and digital, groove and soul — into something pure, resonant, and timeless.
