Tutu Amuse – Cherry Riding
Tutu Amuse represents the musical and artistic union of guitarist, vocalist and actor Rosa Landers and drummer, composer, vocalist and producer Janek van Laak. Both hail from Berlin’s infamous Marzahn concrete tower blocks where they spent several lockdowns creating their debut album, “Two To Amuse”.
“Cherry Riding”, the second single to be taken from the LP, conjures up images of film noir and Cold War spies with its John Barry style sinister guitars and Rosa’s sublime and mischievous lead vocals. Comparisons to Beth Gibbons and Portishead aren’t far from the mark, although the song wasn’t always intended to be this way, as Rosa and Janek explain:
„Cherry Riding arose out of the Bond-like guitar line and this codeine groove. We first thought it didn‘t need vocals, still we ended up singing about red riding hood beating up the wolf on a sweet intimate night ride.„
The forthcoming album speaks to the listener in bold colours, and with a distinctly theatrical feel. It’s no surprise then that the couple hold the visual aspect of their music to be vital. Both in terms of their live performances, and in their forthcoming videos, we can expect some stunning and stirring sights that will simultaneously be avant garde and full of playfulness.
With ample touring and more new music to come from this delicious doublet, this looks like being a momentous year for Tutu Amuse, but for now, enjoy this second taste of what’s to come.
“Sex in the studio“
“creepy energy was hunting this Marzahn junkie jungle, but as soon as we locked the studio door on the floor 9 – things unfolded surprisingly colorful.”
”blood, sweat and tears.“
Two To Amuse is out 9th of September 2022 on Sonar Kollektiv.
