Roos Jonker & Dean Tippet – Album
With the release of «This One» and «Love Like That» Sonar Kollektiv fueled the expectations for the album by Roos Jonker and Dean Tippet heavily. Now it’s finally here and it probably will sweeten our lives beyond the coming summer months.
Roos Jonker and Dean Tippet, the two singer-songwriters from Amsterdam have been making music together since 2009 – initially as members of «We’ll Make It Right», the six-piece supergroup around Benny Sings, but as solo artists as well. Roos Jonker attracted already in 2010 quite some attention with her self-produced debut album «Mmmmm». Her charming mix of modern jazz, folk and carefree poppy vocals went down well with the public as much as with critics around the globe.
After a Japan tour in 2011 with «We’ll Make It Right» Jon- ker and Tippet decided to record together a duet album and started to cut some early tracks already in 2012, but soon were distracted by circumstances of life, kids, mat- ters of love and books.
Only six years later, when producer Eelco Topper (aka Felbm aka Falco Benz) joined in, the album at hand, «Roos Jonker & Dean Tippet», slowly but surely took shape.
«All The Places I Could Go» is the appropriate start of this good natured summer joy ride. The song’s minimalistic, pointedly orchestration is present all over the album and supports the tantalizing, well-paired voices of Jonker and Tippet perfectly.
All of the ten songs at hand show a subliminal optimism without drifting off into sob-stuff. To the contrary, «Roos Jonker & Dean Tippet» is an album with an easy acces- sible thoughtfulness turning out to be quite contagious. «Script» or «Lorelei» are perfect examples of how a song can sound somehow sad, but still can resonate with lots of delight and hope. At the end – at the very latest with «A World Asleep» – all of this whet one’s appetite for more songs in this vein.
Songs that can ease the pain and shed some light in darker days. Songs you just can’t get enough of.
