Outlines – Now That I’m Free feat. RZA
Few acts manage to cause such a stir with their first 12“ as OUTLINES did with Just A Lil’ Lovin’ (SK045). This track earned them a universal hit which has just kept on growing in popularity even though the initial release had to wait two years due to sample clearance. At first available only as a bootleg, the track was played by such illustrious DJs as GILLES PETERSON, MR. SCRUFF, KING BRITT, KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE; PETER KRUDER; LAURENT GARNIER and JOSH WINK – and it’s no wonder with such an infectiously groovy number…
This success story continued with another 12″ release: Listen To The Drums (SK121 and SK122) with remixes by JAZZANOVA (incl. DIXON-Edit) and CHRISTIAN PROMMER (FAUNA FLASH, TRÜBY TRIO, VOOM:VOOM) as DRUMLESSON, as well as Waiting In Line (SK138), incl. Remix von KRAZY BALDHEAD. But above all one should mention the excellent OUTLINES debut album, Our Lives Are Too Short (SK139CD/LP), which brings their swinging Francophone groove to the point and in feature length format.
And the current single Now That I’m Free is taken from said album. Guest vocalist on the track is none other than RZA aka ROBERT DIGGS aka BOBBY DIGITAL, mastermind of the hip hop legends the WU-TANG CLAN. He makes sure that Now That I’m Free reaches an even higher level of energy than it otherwise would without his vocal contribution.
Besides the main mix the 12″ also contains and instrumental version as well as the a cappella version of Now That I’m Free. There is also a bonus track, The World, which is not on the album release. This 12″ is up OUTLINES usually high standard and will appeal to (not only) hip hop Djs.
