Micatone – Last Christmas
The 5 piece band MICATONE made up of Lisa Bassenge – vocals, Boris Meinhold – guitars/samples, Tim Kroker – drums, Paul Kleber – bass, Hagen Demmin – keys formed in 2000. So far they have recorded three longplayers: Ninesongs, Is You Is and Nomad Songs in 2005 (SK061), all for the Sonar Kollektiv label. For this 7″ single MICATONE have recorded two very different versions of this powerful classic.
Last Christmas was the massive WHAM! hit from 1984 when the single sold well over a million copies. It’s the biggest selling single in UK chart history not to reach #1 having been held off the top spot by BOB GELDOF’s Band-Aid project (which GEORGE MICHAEL was of course also involved in). Since 1997, the song has been in the German charts every year and it peaked at #4 in 2007. The hit has been covered over 300 times. MICATONE’s 2 extremely unique covers both have something new to bring to this mega hit. The A-side is a heart-breaking downbeat country version. While the B-side is 50s style cover of Last Christmas: this one is ideal for slow dancing round the Christmas tree with your love one.
Last Christmas is one of those timeless pop hits that are just irresistible. MICATONE are the perfect choice for Sonar Kollektiv’s traditional seasonal 7″ with their 2 fine cover versions of this classic song. It’s the perfect stocking filler for all the family and is sure to bring some festive cheer into your household.
