Georg Levin – Keep On Making Me High / Leisure Suit
The Berlin multitalent GEORG LEVIN has often had the opportunity to prove he knows his way around clubs. Together with his WAHOO partner STEFFEN „DIXON“ BERKHAHN he is responsible for the hit Make Em Shake It (SK038) which with its compelling grooves and vocals by CAPITOL A is still an essential feature in many record boxes.
GEORG LEVIN is a singer, instrumentalist, songwriter and producer in one. His style represents a highly musical union of songwriting and beats. While WAHOO works more uptempo, with GEORG LEVIN’s solo productions it is much more the song than the track that stands in the foreground – although of course the tunes can still be danceable. His debut album Can’t Hold Back (SK009CD/LP) from 2003 as well as a few further 12“ vinyls for Sonar Kollektiv underline this basic approach clearly. And that’s not forgetting his many collaborations, among others with JAZZANOVA, or the wonderful CLARA HILL, on whose current album All I Can Provide (SK099CD/LP), GEORG LEVIN is also represented.
This latest 12“ is a good follow on to the last LEVIN release, the Heaven EP (SK053), and shows the way he is going with his productions. As a precursor to future releases, the A-side track Keep On Making Me High, is a reworking of a piece that appeared already on LEVIN’s very first Sonar Kollektiv release. Guitar, a solid house groove and LEVIN’s narrative together with uplifting vocals unite to form a track that’s funky, driving and laid back simultaneously. The B-side number Leisure Suit, is an equally fresh production – this one is a never before released track: with its rolling beat it’s somewhat deeper than the A-side.
In the light of this excellent double pack one should have even more anticipation for the next GEORG LEVIN productions!
