Jazzanova – The Remixes 1997-2000
Jazzanova are a Berlin based producer collective consisting of the Jazzanova DJ-team (Jürgen von Knoblauch, Alexander Barck and Claas Brieler), the producers of Extended Spirit (Stefan Leisering and Axel Reinemer) and Kosma (Roskoe Kretschmann).
Jazzanova had discovered their sonic brotherhood DJing at Berlin’s Delicious Doughnuts Club and hooked up as a team back in 1995.
To Jazzanova, music means the search for a common language of international club music, to take in influences from all different cultures and musical styles, to fuse these styles together and get the audience involved in the whole musical spectrum of that fusion. Their love for deep jazz and modern beats has led their music to become a somewhat stunning amalgamation of retro and new sounds that echoes almost all musical styles from HipHop or Afrofunk to Drum & Bass, Boogie, Brazil, Latin, and Soul. Always reacting directly to new and fresh influences, Jazzanova have developed a percussion-oriented, sophisticated, clean and warm broken-beat-style that is constantly changing in form and allows no pigeon-holing. It’s just simply jazzanova!
Ever since Gilles Peterson played their first track, “Fedime’s Flight”, on his radio show in 1997, Jazzanova have been asked to produce remixes for many of their idols, acts like U.F.O., 4Hero, Incognito, and Azymuth.
Jazzanova still first and foremost remix pieces of artists that have especially influenced and inspired them. In their attempt to pay tribute to the artist they are interpreting, Jazzanova always try to capture the very essence not only of the particular track, but of the entire album. As you listen closely to their remixes, you will always discover elements of the artist’s former records and find the spirit of his entire work reflected. As each Jazzanova remix is produced with great respect and effort, it is no wonder they sometimes spend up to three months in the studio before a remix is completed. What they finally come up with are some excellently produced, very DJ-set oriented pieces that shift between different styles and tempi, oscillate between jazzy and electronic feelings and are sure to enjoy dancers and listeners alike.
The Sonar Kollektiv is very glad and grateful to re-release this album.
