Outlines – Listen To The Drums Pt. 2
Few acts manage to cause such a stir with their first 12“ as OUTLINES did with Just A Lil’ Lovin’ (SK045). This track earned them a universal hit which has just kept on growing in popularity even though the initial release had to wait two years due to sample clearance.
Expectations were high for the follow up release, not least of all because such members of the crème de la crème of international DJs as GILES PETERSON, LAURENT GARNIER, KING BRITT and MR. SCRUFF were all singing the praise for the track – and it’s no wonder with such a groovy number…
Listen To The Drums Pt. 1 (SK121) was indeed a worthy follow up. The OUTLINES original, with its swinging vibe and afro percussion in the best French club music tradition, was accompanied with a JAZZANOVA remix which effectively stripped the vocals down to a hymnic minimum and instead places more weight on the strength of the synthesizers.
Listen To The Drums Pt. 2 continues this success story with a further release. The JAZZANOVA remix can again be found here, this time in an edited version by DIXON. Der JAZZANOVA-Remix findet sich hier noch einmal in einer Edit-Version von DIXON (who is currently setting the standard in all things house with his Berlin club night Innercity and the label Innervisions). His rework condenses the hypnotic elements of the JAZZANOVA mix and does away with the vocals all together – whoever has gazed out the window of DIXON’s club on the twelfth floor of a tower block over Alexanderplatz at night will know, this mix has universal appeal and isn’t just going to work great on that floor. In all its intensity, the CHRISTIAN PROMMER`S DRUMLESSON (FAUNA FLASH, TRÜBY TRIO, VOOM:VOOM) mix is on a similar. He pushes the tempo up and brings in an impressive rolling afro feeling which is typical for many PROMMER mixes.
