200 releases is a great achievement for any indie label. To mark this respectable milestone in the catalogue of their Sonar Kollektiv label, JAZZANOVA put together another of their pristine compilations. Far from adhering to any kind of obvious "best of" format, they chose to include almost exclusively tracks from the last year of Sonar's output. Here now an exclusive Digital Kollektiv single with three very fine tracks by RECLOOSE, DAZ-I-KUE and QUASIMODE First up is New Zealand resident RECLOOSE whose 3rd full length studio album, Perfect Timing (SK191), came out in 2008 on Sonar Kollektiv. RECLOOSE has remixed the likes of HERBERT, TEI TOWA, MJ COLE and AZYMUTH and had releases on K7!, Peacefrog, Playhouse and Eskimo too. His 1st album, Cardiology, came out on Planet E and MATTHEW CHICOINE, as he's known to his family, is a turntablist in CARL CRAIG’s Innerzone Orchestra. Catch A Leaf is the opening track on RECLOOSE's new album and the combination of MATTHEW CHICOINE's production with RACHEL FRASER's lyrical flow make it utterly catchy. An EVA BE remix of Catch A Leaf was included on a previous DK release (DK029) but the original song is unbeatable as well. Exclusively for this digital release, and on the request of JÜRGEN VON KNOBLAUCH from JAZZANOVA, DAZ-I.KUE from groove-mongers BUGZ IN THE ATTIC has delivered this phenomenally funky Come With Me (J-Boogie Remix). DAZ who is currently working on a solo album with singer ANDREA CLARKE has previously remixed SLOPE feat. OVASOUL7 on Sonar Kollektiv. This new effort is a fine gospel boogie number.
SLOPE are another long-running member of the Sonar Kollektiv family with countless releases and remixes on the Berlin label including their last album Slope Is Dope (SK130) in 2007. While the original is to be found on Japanese big band QUASIMODE's recent album on SK (SK177), The Land Of Freedom, this SLOPE remix of Last Nine Days, which is also included on JAZZANOVAs recent compilation Neujazz (SK174CD), introduces a chilled house groove to the tune: utterly danceable, this track is just what you need to liven up those dance floors.
The 3 tunes on this Digital Kollektiv download release are every bit as varied and eclectic as JAZZANOVA's SK200 compilation. And so the story goes on... Following the 10th anniversary last year, SK200 sees the start of a new chapter for Sonar Kollektiv. One things for sure, the music is as fresh as ever.
