JAZZANOVA's Sonar Kollektiv label celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2007. To mark this momentous occasion they brought out a special double CD compilation Ten Years Who Cares (SK150CD) featuring all your favourites from the Sonar crew. But the celebrations didn’t stop there: as well as hosting a ten day long festival, they have also formed the SK ORCHESTER - a Sonar Kollektiv super-group made up of label artists and friends. This 15 piece ensemble orchestra is led by the extremely capable VOLKER MEITZ who has worked with DEPHAZZ, WIR SIND HELDEN and ROSENSTOLZ. Needless to say, SONAR KOLLEKTIV ORCHESTER is an all-star band, the personnel consisting of recording artists and performing musicians connected to the label. Their debut album, Guaranteed Niceness, will be released in May 2008 (SK170CD/" title="view release information">SK170CD/illicity).
SKO's repertoire is a cross selection of tunes from the SK label back catalogue, the original styles of which cover a wide range from deep house and broken beats to reggae and experimental hip hop. The new arrangements for a 15 piece band, including many acoustic instruments, put the tunes into an orchestral context and provide a brand new listening experience.
Atlantic by THIEF originally came out on their album Sunchild in 2007 (SK135CD/LP). THIEF is the collaborative project of singer SASCHA GOTTSCHALK and two members of JAZZANOVA, STEFAN LEISERING and AXEL REINEMER (together known as EXTENDED SPIRIT). Their songs have provided some of the highlights of the popular Secret Love compilation series on Sonar Kollektiv. It’s lovely to hear this original song in the new SKO version, available as radio version on this DK release.

The second song on DK022/illicity is the medley Run / Fedime’s Flight.
Run has been released on MICATONEs album Nine Songs (SZCD0001) on Sonar Kollektiv in 2001.
Fedime’s Flight was the kick off for JAZZANOVAs producer career and has been released on Jazzanova Compost Records in 1997 (Jazzanova EP – JCR0001)

Boom Clicky Boom Klack by JAZZANOVA was first released as 12" in 2006 (SK094). The track was mixed by MR. SCRUFF who also did the cover artwork of the original 12". Like the album (SK170), the new version of Boom Clicky Boom Klack has a gloriously warm and funky sound. The arrangement has a genuine lounge feel with a tight horns section, fender rhodes and soul vocals. Its a super hi-fi production thanks to VOLKER MEITZ who works with the band as producer on the whole SK ORCHESTRA project.

Such a creative new collaborative project from some of Sonar Kollektiv's finest really is a must have for fans of the label and the vibrant scene of musicians that has grown up around it since being founded by JAZZANOVA over 10 years ago.
