With their unique blend of Dub, Reggae, Funk and Soul Wellington-based 7-piece band THE BLACK SEEDS already turned many heads around! Indeed they are one of New Zealand’s most beloved bands and their first two albums Keep On Pushing (2001) and On the Sun (2003) received a critical acclaim and reached respectively gold and double-platinum sales status at home. Their music also seduced Berlin DJ, booker and taste-maker DANIEL W. BEST, who decided to spread their good vibrations to our European ears by releasing their third album Into the Dojo (SBCD 0008/dem roots) on his own imprint Best Seven. After a very successful tour this summer, which brought them to UK (London), France (Paris and Marseille), Germany (Berlin and Frankfurt) and Holland, where they performed at the highly influential Lowlands music festival, THE BLACK SEEDS are now getting the attention they deserve on the old continent. Sonar Kollektiv decided to celebrate this success with them and to please their new European fans by releasing the two lovely dub-reggae numbers Turn it Around taken from their album On the Sun and Good People (Get together) taken from Into the Dojo (SBCD0008) on their digital sub-label Digital Kollektiv. This digital release is the perfect bridge between their 2 albums and will surely raise more awareness of their music in the community of Dub and Reggae lovers!

Turn It Around was one of the highlights of their first album and still is what the music of THE BLACK SEEDS is all about: clever and talented reggae/dub influenced tunes that could instantly cheer up and relax the saddest person in the world. Guitarist and lead singer BARNABY WEIR lays his beautiful voice on the organ and keyboard melodies of BRET MCKENZIE and on the catchy grooves of drummer JARNEY T. MURPHY, to deliver a message of love and optimism in a nice and moody atmosphere that feels like a sunny afternoon at the beach in Wellington.
Good People (Get Together) is a bouncy and vibrant ode to friendship. THE BLACK SEEDS would not make such beautiful music without this friendship and the special feelings it carries. DANIEL WEETMAN and BRET MCKENZIE have joined BARNABY WEIR and sing with him on the choruses, while MURPHY is grooving with TIM JARAY and his very funky bass lines. The result is a delight of a pop song served in a reggae and dubby feeling that will surely make people feel good and dance in every situation.
