With its 10th anniversary Sonar Kollektiv is not just looking back on a successful past but is also laying the foundations for an even more successful future. Part of this is that the label equips itself for the digital age - and they are doing this with the new download platform Digital Kollektiv.
In May 2007 Sonar Kollektiv opened a new download platform under the name
www.digitalkollektiv.com as an extension to the already existent Sonar Kollektiv web-shop. This is not just a reaction to changing habits of the listening public, rather a new way of playing with the possibility that the medium of internet offers.
At first there will be Digital Kollektiv releases to accompany regular albums - for example, made up of alternative versions, remixes and exclusive tracks which will only be available through Digital Kollektiv. Moreover this opens a new field of experimentation for JAZZANOVA's A&R team. The speed and flexibility of the medium means Digital Kollektiv is perfect for releases beyond the static frame of physical discs. Of course, all downloads will be available not just as MP3s but also as non-lossy Wave files. Dutchman singer/songwriter talent BENNY SINGS whose third album ...At Home (
SK148CD/LP) just came out on Sonar Kollektiv had the honour to inaugurate the new platform with the song Let Me In and 2 tracks never released on JAZZANOVA’s label. He is now back by popular demand on Digital Kollektiv with Blackberry St feat. Urita taken from his latest album and No more drinks For Me taken from his first opus I Love You Live at the Bimhuis (
SK051CD) but as an exclusive bootleg version.
Blackberry St is an airy pop song soaked with pure joy, capable of sapping every last ounce of sadness and boredom from the most jaded music fan. The harmony between BENNY SINGS and URITA’s beautiful voices will draw you into a world of innocence and happiness. Blackberry St is really representative Benny’s latest release. It is sublime pop music, which is accessible yet never superficial.
The exclusive bootleg version of No More Drink For Me will please all the fans of his first album. They will find here a new and fresh interpretation, that sounds as if Benny was sitting next to them and singing for them. Benny shares here a moment of his life in a laid-back and casual manner and with the unmistakable voice that made his success. No More Drinks For Me is the perfect soundtrack to depict the feelings of somebody after a week-end of non-stop. As Benny says It’s still happy music but a kind of moody happy.” This bootleg is the perfect song that you want to hear when the party is over and when you need a good friend to bring you home.
